There are no other cards that can cause as much destruction for 4 mana the only card compatible to Cataclysm is Balance which is banned in most formats for the same reasons. Dawn of Hope Now here we have a big beauty drawing a card when gaining life for 2 mana is a great ROI. Each of these has a beneficial effect, and draw you a card.
One of my favorite things about how the color white’s values are showcased on Magic cards through the years is the constant push-and-pull between sweepers and protection spells. White gets to dictate when all creatures must face judgmentjudgment, but it also gets to intervene and protect the creatures it holds dear. Mechanically, this tug of war has played out in the form of an arms race edh deck between increasingly powerful and versatile sweepers and protection spells. Child of Alara- This card is usually played in either 5 color control or combo decks as an insurance commander.
Protection & Removal
A new ramp piece that can also do a good impression of Elvish Piper, $29.99 is maybe slightly high for this card, but it is still pretty cool if you’re playing with enchantments. Another new Commander Deck card, Titan of Littjara, is another gift to typal decks from the slivers. Currently preordering for $29.99, it might well drop, but we know that typal decks are popular in all walks of Magic.
Land (
They’re back now, even if they’re at rare, and come in prices ranging from $11 to $24.96, with Emerald Medallion as the cheapest and the rest at similar prices at the higher end of the price range. Incredibly popular cards, some of the best mana rocks, players will be happy to see them again, even if they’ve been upshifted. Like the rest of this cycle, plenty of people were happy to see Deflecting Swat reprinted, and even happier to see it not at mythic! Like the rest, the power of this target-changing card is being able to cast it when you’re tapped out, so no one can see it coming. One player may think they’re safe to go for their game-winning spell, but they really aren’t. This card has been at its current price of $33 or above for a while now, and I’d be shocked if it weren’t higher than this in a year’s time.
Spiritual Focus Replacing your discarded card with a new one and gaining 2 life to boot, could not ignore that. There are also etched foils of a number of cards, but these seem less popular these days, as well as old border basics from fan-favorite artists like Rebecca Guay. There really is a huge mishmash of things to look forward to here, if alt arts or special treatments are your thing. Commander’s PlateCommander’s Plate that provides a really cheap way to give your leader a bonus whilst also providing them protection from any color not represented in their color identity. Devotion is a Theros-centric mechanic that gives you rewards for each right colored mana pip on permanents you control.
List of effective EDH/Commander Voltron cards
This common never lets you down and is a criminally underrated card in EDH. This wouldn’t be a list about the most popular effects in white without mentioning the color’s best sweepers. Sweepers exemplify white’s quest for peace, even if it’s achieved the hard way. And while the color black has seen a lot of great board clearing spells lately, “wraths,” named after the original Alpha version, are still one of the things white does best. This is all but confirmed by looking through the list of commanders that synergize well with the card.
These mono-white prison-style cards include HaystackHaystack from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed set, Windborn MuseWindborn Muse, Blind ObedienceBlind Obedience, Trouble in PairsTrouble in Pairs, and a lot more. The color white is full of effects that somehow buff your whole team, often seen on classic cards like Glorious AnthemGlorious Anthem and Inspired ChargeInspired Charge. But this is EDH, so we have to take things up multiple notches for a board-wide buff to see play.
It’s never going to cost you that much, and it pays you back 2 mana the turn it comes down anyway. The double reprint may lower this more than it would without the previous one, but it’s still going to be a big hit in your pack. One of Magic’s best white enchantments, Land Tax is a staple in white decks that want to make sure they’re hitting their land drops.
Throne of EldraineThrone of Eldraine is both a mana rock and card draw option that specifically asks you to stick with just one color. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir- When this card is played the controlling player has gain a major advantage over their opponents as the controlling player has just limited the amount of interaction an opponent can have with the player. Spell Crumple- the commander counter spell Is almost identical to Hinder with the exception of spell crumple’s built in recursion. Like Hinder this card serves as a way to remove commanders from the game by placing them at the bottom of their owners library and also serves as a combo piece with Tunnel Vision.
Part hate piece, part efficient beater, this is a kill on sight card for a lot of people and can really disrupt a player’s game plan if it gets in. Extraplanar Lens is a pretty unique card, and it can provide a lot of ramp in even non-green decks. While it can also ramp your opponents, it’s still unique enough to nearly break $20, and comes in at $19.50. All sorts of different types of decks want this card, and now they have better access to it at cheaper prices. Combo-tastic Purphoros, God of the Forge is one of the go-to commanders for a goblin deck or a great inclusion in the 99 of a go-wide token deck that allows you to win without an attack.
To elaborate ill be focusing on cards that are common in many EDH decks, not necessarily commanders themselves (though a few will be mentioned) but support cards that many people have not heard about. Keep in mind while reading that this is not a complete list of EDH staple merely a small sample of a vast collection of cards.. Caged Sun will also double the output of white mana produced and is an anthem to keep Kiyomaro out if you drop to no cards in hand. It could be said, however, that it’s surprising it’s still worth that price, even with all the reprints it’s seen. A powerful card, opening the way to win, it’s always going to see play and will always be worth at least something. Balefire Dragon was first seen in Innistrad, and it has since only seen a reprint in Ultimate Masters. Once worth over $40, its current price is much more manageable at $21.79, and it’s likely to drop more with this reprint.
